France to Increase Concessional Loans to Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: The French Government will increase the size of concessional loans and seek the assistance of the European Union and other sources to contribute to the development and recovery of the Cambodian economy after the Covid-19 Crisis. This was confirmed on Friday by French Ambassador Jacques Pellet.

The French ambassador was speaking to the Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Pornmoniroth saying that Cambodia and France have a long-standing relationship, especially development cooperation under the AFD project. He added that this cooperation has contributed to the development ambitions of French President Emmanuel Macron to participate in the economic development of developing countries such as Cambodia.

Minister Aun Pornmoniroth said that the French Republic has contributed to the socio-economic development of Cambodia in almost all areas, especially in the areas of health, clean water, electricity, agriculture, education and many public investment projects since the Paris Peace Agreement. In 2021, France and Cambodia signed two co-financing agreements worth a total of $23 million to support the development of agriculture, water and the fight against climate change.
